What to Pack for a Week in the Amazon
A field-tested pack list for a 7-day peacock bass adventure aboard our yachts in the Brazilian Amazon.
Travel Docs & Essentials
- Passport valid 6+ months past return and two blank pages.
- Visa (if required for your nationality) and printed approval.
- Flight itinerary, travel insurance, and emergency contacts.
- $200–$400 USD in small bills for tips/souvenirs.
- Waterproof pouch for documents, phone, and cash.
Pro tip: keep your passport/visa in a zip bag inside your carry-on; checked bags can be delayed.
Clothing & Footwear
- 3–4 quick-dry fishing shirts (long-sleeve UPF preferred).
- 2–3 lightweight fishing pants plus 1–2 pairs of shorts.
- Sun hoodie or buff, wide-brim hat, and polarized sunglasses (with retainer).
- Light rain jacket; packable and breathable.
- Deck shoes or light sneakers for the boat; sandals/flip-flops for the yacht.
- Moisture-wicking socks and base layers for cooler mornings.
- Evening casual wear for the yacht (lightweight and breathable).
Avoid cotton. Quick-dry synthetics keep you comfortable in heat and humidity.
Health Essentials
- Prescription meds in original bottles; bring 2–3 days extra.
- EpiPen/auto-injector if prescribed; keep one on you and one in your day bag.
- Allergy meds (antihistamine), pain reliever, antacid, anti-diarrheal.
- Motion/sea-sickness tablets (even if you rarely need them).
- Small first-aid: bandages, blister care, antiseptic wipes, tweezers.
- Insect bite/itch cream and a small burn/after-sun gel.
- Spare pair of prescription glasses/contacts and solution, if applicable.
We carry first-aid on board, but personal prescriptions and allergy gear (EpiPen, inhaler) must travel with you.
Comfort & Protection
- Reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 30+), lip balm with SPF, aloe/after-sun.
- Insect repellent (with DEET or picaridin) and anti-itch cream.
- Personal meds, seasickness tablets, basic first aid (we also carry kits).
- Electrolyte packets and reusable water bottle.
- Headlamp or small flashlight; extra batteries.
- Dry bags or zip bags for phone, camera, and small items in the skiff.
- Portable charger/power bank and device cables.
Pack everything in soft duffels; hard cases and oversized luggage are harder to stow on bush flights and boats.
